This lockdown has many feeling bored more often than we might like to admit. So to pass the time, we have some random beer facts for you.
Fact #1: The strongest beer in the world has a 67.5% alcohol content.
In 2013 Scottish brewery ‘Brewmeister’ launched a beer called ‘Snake Venom’ with a content of no less than 67.5% ABV, making it the strongest beer in the world. It is so strong, that it is being sold with a warning label.
Fact #2: Cenosillicaphobia is the fear of an empty beer glass.
Cenosillicaphobia (pronounced sen-no-sill-ick-uh-fobia) is every beer drinker’s worst nightmare. The cure? Another beer.
Fact #3: At any given time, 0.7% of the world is drunk.
So 50 million people are drunk right now. Don’t believe us? Look it up.
Fact #4: Beer was the drink of choice in the middle ages.
Why, you ask? Because clean water was difficult to find and alcohol in beer killed most microorganisms, making it safer to drink.
Fact #5: The world’s longest hangover lasted 4 weeks.
After a Scotsman consumed 60 pints of beer. In late 2007 the 37-year-old went to a hospital complaining of a dull headache and blurred vision that had gone on for four weeks, which is the longest hangover ever recorded.
